BREAKING: Democrats Build Case for Investigations, Trump Loses Taylor Swift
Good evening, this is Really American. It is Saturday, August 8, 2026.
House Democrats are quietly building a war chest of subpoenas and document requests aimed at Trump’s donors, contractors, and financial backers, betting on evidence over impeachment. Iran just handed the U.S. a list of hard demands before it will reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and a ship got hit by an Iranian missile in the meantime. Trump’s own campaign account got hit with a copyright strike after trying to use a Taylor Swift song to flatter him. And Hunter Biden confirmed his father’s cancer has spread further into his bones. Let’s get into it.
Before diving into the news, we want to tell you what we’re actually trying to build here. Really American exists to be something legacy media can’t be: a newsroom that doesn’t answer to corporate boardrooms, doesn’t recycle the same talking points every outlet is handed, and doesn’t let gatekeepers decide what you get to know and when. Our reporters stay up late tracking incoming reports, chasing down documents, and verifying what’s real before it hits your inbox. But passion alone doesn’t keep the lights on. If you believe independent journalism deserves to exist, and you want to see this grow into something that actually rivals the media giants, the way to make that happen is simple. DEMOCRATS ARE QUIETLY BUILDING A CASE FOR MASS INVESTIGATIONS
House Democrats are preparing to launch sweeping investigations into Trump’s orbit if they retake the majority in November, and they’re starting with the money, not the White House itself.
Senior Democratic aides told Reuters the plan leans on hearings, subpoenas, and document requests aimed at companies, donors, and financial firms tied to Trump, betting that private entities will yield more than a resistant White House ever would. “We’re not going into this to impeach,” one senior aide said, describing a strategy built on assembling evidence first.
The list of possible targets includes Apple, Alphabet, Palantir, Blackstone, BlackRock, and Tesla over their government contracts, plus 1789 Capital, the venture firm where Donald Trump Jr. is a partner, and financing behind Trump’s White House ballroom. Democrats are already sending letters to companies like Paramount Skydance and GEO Group to lay the groundwork before they even have subpoena power.
Oversight Committee ranking member Robert Garcia pointed to “sketchy Pentagon contracts lining the pockets of the president’s sons” and Trump’s crypto holdings as examples of what’s coming. This isn’t a fishing expedition. It’s a paper trail Democrats plan to have ready the day they take the gavel.
IRAN DEMANDS THE US “CORRECT ITS BEHAVIOR” BEFORE REOPENING HORMUZ
Iran issued tough new demands Saturday for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, saying the waterway stays closed until the United States “corrects its behaviour.”
Iran’s supreme national security council said the U.S. must permanently end the war, lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports, withdraw its military from the region, and “unconditionally” release frozen Iranian assets. Iran’s foreign minister said negotiators are close on a transit route, but reopening the strait still hinges on conditions Washington hasn’t accepted.
While talks dragged on, a vessel owned by Abu Dhabi’s state oil company was hit by an Iranian missile in the strait. Adnoc says more than a dozen of its ships have been attacked since the war began, with one crew member killed and 20 wounded.
The 60-day window to reach a final deal runs out in just over a week. Trump has spent months claiming peace is close while the war grinds on and ships keep getting hit.
TRUMP’S OWN TIKTOK GETS SILENCED BY TAYLOR SWIFT
A TikTok video from Trump’s campaign account had its Taylor Swift soundtrack stripped after the singer’s team pulled the rights.
The video, posted four days ago on the @TeamTrump account, showed Trump and Melania watching fireworks set to Swift’s song “August,” captioned “I’m sure @Taylor Swift is going to be super excited we used her song.” The audio is now blocked in the U.S. with a message saying the copyright owner hasn’t made it available.
This isn’t new. A November video using Swift’s “Father Figure” got the same treatment. Trump has publicly attacked Swift for years, writing “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT” after she endorsed Kamala Harris in 2024 and warning she’d “pay a price for it in the marketplace.”
Even Taylor Swift won’t let Trump borrow her name without a fight. It’s a small moment, but it says something that even pop culture won’t play along with his branding.
HUNTER BIDEN SAYS HIS FATHER’S CANCER HAS SPREAD FURTHER
Hunter Biden told the BBC on Friday that Joe Biden’s cancer has spread further into his bones, calling it “very painful” and “very debilitating.”
Biden’s office first disclosed his aggressive prostate cancer diagnosis in May 2025, and the family said last September he had completed radiation and hormone therapy. Jill Biden said in June that the cancer’s spread to the bone means her husband will “live with cancer for the rest of his life.”
Hunter also addressed the pardon his father granted him before leaving office, covering potential crimes from 2014 to 2024. He called it “not fair” but said he’s grateful, describing his father as someone who “chose me over his legacy.”
This is a family navigating a serious diagnosis in public, and it deserves to be treated with basic decency, not political spin.

It’s so pathetic, that a sitting President of the United States, has to play tit for tat, with anyone, let alone a singer!!
This is what 5, maybe 6 year olds do.
We see the same childish behavior with Iran. He tells Iran that, unless they do what he says,” he will be very upset and disappointed. “ He will teach them a lesson.
He even said he would “ wipe out their entire country and everyone in it.”
He started this war. The straights were open then. After his military action against them, the closed the straights.
More importantly, we have lost 18 servicemen and women. Over 600 injured.
Not counting the countless number of Iranians. Including , I believe 150 children.
How much have the tax payers paid for this war no one wanted??? Who knows. We will never know for sure. We are paying millions to help build their infrastructure. Does any of that make sense? Not to me.
Maybe the Trump children , and relatives, should enlist in our military. That way, when Donny decides to “play war” to “ teach them a lesson”, we can have some of his children fighting on the front lines . They can make sure they follow Donny’s orders. They can assist the other service members in accomplishing what Donny wants done.
Glad I found this place! I really enjoy the daily updates. Keep it up!
