MCCONNELL HEALTH BOMBSHELL ROCKS THE GOP

MAGA influencer Laura Loomer claimed Monday that Mitch McConnell is “officially brain dead” and “not coming back,” citing what she called a high-level source close to the White House.

Loomer is a conspiracy theorist and her claim is unverified. But the confirmed facts are alarming on their own. McConnell was hospitalized last week after being found unconscious and receiving CPR, and his office has released almost nothing about his condition since. As Alternet reported, medical experts were already warning he could be unfit to serve.

The 84-year-old has suffered three public falls in 2025, a concussion from falling down stairs in 2023, and repeated episodes where he froze mid-sentence in front of cameras. Republicans have spent years covering for him instead of leveling with the public.

MAINE DEMOCRATS MOVE TO FORCE PLATNER OUT

A woman accused Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner of sexually assaulting her in late 2021, and Maine’s Democratic Party leadership demanded his withdrawal within hours.

According to reporting from Politico, Jenny Racicot said Platner showed up at her home uninvited and nearly blackout drunk, forced himself on her while she repeatedly told him to stop, and followed her into her bedroom where he had sex with her against her will. Platner called any accusation of non-consensual behavior “categorically false,” but canceled campaign events and said he is weighing his path forward.

The response from his own side was immediate. Maine Democratic Party Chair Charles Dingman and the full party leadership called on him to withdraw, Rep. Ro Khanna told him to step aside, and End Citizens United pulled its endorsement. Platner has until July 13 at 5pm to exit the race so Democrats can replace him on the ballot against Susan Collins.

TRUMP CORRUPTS THE WORLD CUP

Trump personally called FIFA president Gianni Infantino to get American striker Folarin Balogun’s red-card suspension lifted, and FIFA caved.

FIFA delayed the ban by a full year, making Balogun just the second player in World Cup history to skip a suspension after a red card. The only other case was Brazil’s Garrincha in 1962, before automatic bans even existed. Belgium appealed and FIFA’s Appeal Committee threw the case out. Per The Independent, FIFA still has not given Belgium a single reason for the decision, which Belgium’s football federation says violates FIFA’s own regulations.

The EU’s commissioner for sport, Glenn Micallef, warned that letting politicians influence sporting decisions destroys the independence of sport itself. Trump did not care. He bragged about the call, attacked the referee as “very suspect,” and Balogun is set to start against Belgium in Seattle tonight.

Trump cannot look at a rulebook without trying to bully his way around it. Tonight it is a soccer match on home soil. The lesson he keeps learning is that institutions fold when he pushes, and that lesson does not stay on the field.

JUDGE TO TRUMP: PAY CARROLL BY TUESDAY

A federal judge rejected Trump’s latest stalling attempt in a single sentence, and Trump now has until tomorrow to hand E. Jean Carroll $5.8 million.

Judge Lewis Kaplan issued the one-sentence denial on July 4. The money is already sitting in an escrow account. A New York jury concluded Trump sexually abused Carroll in 1996 and then defamed her when she came forward, and the Supreme Court just refused to review that verdict without offering a word of explanation.

Trump’s excuse for the delay was that his lead lawyer left the case, because Trump himself put him on a federal bench. Carroll’s attorney Roberta Kaplan called the request “little more than yet another play for time,” according to the Guardian, noting Trump had five months to find new counsel. Trump is still appealing the separate $83.3 million defamation award Carroll won in 2024.
