BREAKING: Republicans Panic Over Trump's Speech Tonight
Good morning, this is Really American. It is Thursday, July 16, 2026. Trump’s own party is begging him to stay off television tonight.
Trump takes over prime time tonight to relitigate the 2020 election, and Republicans are describing themselves as “scared shitless” about what comes out of his mouth. The Washington Post just published a forensic analysis proving the Reflecting Pool peeled apart because of a botched paint job, not the “vandals” Trump invented. Trump also reversed his own Homeland Security Secretary on ICE traffic stops, not because two innocent men died, but because his friends on Fox got angry. And in the courts, Trump’s Justice Department just lost its fifteenth straight attempt to seize state voter rolls, with most of those losses handed down by Republican-appointed judges.
Before we get to the news, we are behind on our July subscriber goal and we need your help closing the gap. The billionaires are not slowing down. Murdoch’s Fox is swallowing Roku for $22 billion, the Ellison family put Bari Weiss in charge of both CBS News and CNN, and Bezos owns the Washington Post. Really American answers to none of them. REPUBLICANS “SCARED SHITLESS” AS TRUMP HIJACKS PRIME TIME FOR 2020 GRIEVANCES
Trump will address the nation in prime time tonight, and his own party is terrified of what he is about to say.
Trump has promised “really big news” on election security, and he said Tuesday the speech will concern election machines and integrity. But according to reporting from Politico, Republicans widely expect him to rehash his debunked claims about the 2020 election instead of talking about the economy. One former Trump administration official put it bluntly: “The people I talk to are scared shitless.” The fear is not the prepared text. It is what Trump adds to it.
The timing makes it worse for them. Renewed hostilities with Iran are driving up gas prices heading into an election that strategists in both parties expect to turn on the cost of living. Republican operatives, including people inside Trump’s own circle, have spent months pleading with him to talk about nothing but the economy. Instead, Trump is spending his rare prime-time slot on a six-year-old grievance. Former Trump adviser Steve Cortes admitted that to persuadable voters, relitigating 2020 “sounds like sour grapes.”
Trump is expected to use the speech to pressure Senate Republicans into passing the SAVE America Act, his election bill requiring voter ID and documentary proof of citizenship. Senate Majority Leader John Thune says the votes are not there, and he spent Wednesday distancing himself from the whole spectacle, saying he is focused on 2026, not 2020. Even Josh Hawley, one of Trump’s loudest allies, admitted he has no idea what Trump will say tonight. When the White House was asked directly whether Trump would relitigate 2020, press secretary Karoline Leavitt refused to rule it out.
Our team will be watching tonight’s speech and will bring you the latest on whatever Trump announces.
Trump has one prime-time megaphone and a country worried about grocery bills. He is using it to talk about an election he lost six years ago. Remember that the next time he claims to be fighting for you.
WAPO FORENSICS DESTROY TRUMP’S “VANDALS” LIE ABOUT THE REFLECTING POOL
The Reflecting Pool did not get slashed by thugs. It got wrecked by Trump’s own rushed, no-bid renovation. Now there is visual proof.
Per the Washington Post, a forensic analysis of satellite imagery, photos, and video found the pool’s new lining peeled away in at least seven places, and every single failure happened along the seams where work crews painted separate sections on different days. Four waterproofing experts with decades of experience reviewed the findings and said the pattern strongly suggests errors in how the $14 million coating was applied. One retired Navy coating inspector said failures occurring only at the seams are “strongly indicative of improper preparation.”
Trump has told a very different story. He claimed on Truth Social that “thugs” cut the pool floor and pulled it up with great force, describing slashes 300 yards long. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum went on Fox News and CNN claiming vandals left 350 feet of gashes and insisted the lining “didn’t peel off.” The Post’s analysis shows exactly the opposite. In five spots, more than 24 hours passed between adjacent coating applications, which the product’s own technical documents say creates adhesion problems. Officials provided no evidence for the vandalism story. None.
The renovation itself reads like a corruption story. The Interior Department handed Atlantic Industrial Coatings a no-bid contract in April, justifying it with a memo claiming only a limited pool of contractors could finish in time for Trump’s July 4 celebration. Sika, the company whose materials survived a decade in the pool after the 2012 renovation, refused to touch this project, telling CNN the rushed timeline made it “unfeasible.” Two weeks after reopening, the lining was peeling and the pool hosted one of the biggest algae blooms in years.
Meanwhile, Trump’s Justice Department has criminally charged at least four people over the “vandalism,” including a former Olympian facing a felony. Charging documents accuse no one of making gashes. Burgum says the repairs will go to the same contractor, because in his words they did “a fantastic job.”
Your government spent $14 million on a paint job that failed in two weeks, invented a crime to cover it up, and is prosecuting citizens to sell the story. That is not incompetence. That is a cover-up with your money.
TWO MEN ARE DEAD BUT TRUMP RESTORED ICE TRAFFIC STOPS TO PLEASE FOX
Trump overruled his own Homeland Security Secretary this week and restored ICE traffic stops, and the reason had nothing to do with public safety.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin paused the tactic “effective immediately” after two men died in ICE traffic stop confrontations. Joan Sebastian Guerrero, a 28-year-old Colombian man in Maine, was killed. Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a 52-year-old father of three in Houston, is dead. Neither man was the target of the operation that killed him. Even Trump’s border czar Tom Homan called the pause necessary, saying ICE needed to ask itself whether the training was sufficient and whether anything went wrong.
Then the TV people got mad. The Independent reports that Trump reversed the pause after a flood of complaints from hard-line allies including Tomi Lahren, Greg Bovino, and Steve Bannon, who convinced him the change “would make them all look weak.” Trump took to Truth Social and declared that ICE cannot give up “THE TRAFFIC STOP,” and Mullin immediately fell in line, insisting he and Trump are “on the same page.” One Homeland Security official described the whiplash inside the department as a “three-ring circus.”
Read the sequence again. Two innocent men are dead. The administration’s own border czar wanted answers about what went wrong. And Trump shut the review down within days because cable news pundits complained. Nobody in the White House has explained what changed about the safety concerns. Nothing changed. The grievance machine just got loud enough.
Trump’s immigration policy is not being run by law enforcement professionals. It is being run by whoever yells loudest on Fox. And people are dying while the pundits keep score.
TRUMP’S OWN JUDGES HAND HIS DOJ A PERFECT 0 FOR 15 LOSING RECORD
Trump’s Justice Department has now lost every single one of its 15 district court cases demanding that states surrender their voter rolls. And Trump’s own judges are doing most of the damage.
According to Democracy Docket, nine of the 15 losses came from Republican-appointed judges. Six were Trump appointees. Not one judge in America has ordered a state to hand over its unredacted statewide voter file. Trump appointees rejected the DOJ in Michigan, Arizona, Maine, Rhode Island, Maryland, and Virginia. Bush appointees threw out cases in New Hampshire, West Virginia, and New Mexico. That makes it impossible for the DOJ to blame liberal activist judges. Its own bench keeps telling it no.
The rulings are brutal. Trump-appointed Judge Stephanie Gallagher in Maryland refused to accept a last-minute DOJ legal opinion backing its own position, writing that the court would not reinterpret the law simply because the party advancing the argument endorsed it. Bush-appointed Judge Thomas Johnston in West Virginia went further, writing that “one is left to wonder what the real purpose was” behind the DOJ filing these suits all around the nation. Several judges dismissed the cases with prejudice, meaning the DOJ cannot simply refile them.
The judges keep converging on the same two problems. The civil rights era law the DOJ is invoking was written to investigate racial discrimination, not to let the federal government seize modern state voter databases. And the DOJ’s demand letters failed to offer any factual basis for suspecting the states broke the law, because there was none.
Hold this next to tonight’s speech. Trump will stand in front of the country claiming elections are rigged, while his own hand-picked judges keep ruling that his voter data grab has no legal basis at all. The courts are holding. That is what fighting back looks like, and it is working.

When the WaPo says something not praising trump you know it has to be really bad and the proof overwhelming. And I am tired of reports about Republicans panicking or scared or thinking trump "has lost it" with no proof that any of the has really said that. I'm not saying they haven't said that in private but it's all meaningless except to show what cowards they all are. They still give him everything he wants/asks for or just plain takes.
Hope I live long enough to see felony convictions for all of the above.
