TRUMP’S OWN WAR CHIEF IS QUIETLY SEEKING AN OFF-RAMP FROM IRAN

Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, is privately telling top administration officials the U.S. needs to find a way out of the war in Iran, even as Trump keeps insisting a deal is close.

According to CNN, Caine has been meeting with officials including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to lay out just how limited the military’s options actually are. “Caine is looking for an off ramp,” one source told the network.

Trump has publicly denied the U.S. is running low on munitions, threatening on Truth Social to hunt down the “leakers” of what he called “treasonous statements.” But a Center for Strategic and International Studies report found the Patriot missile stockpile has dropped by roughly two-thirds since the war began, and THAAD interceptors are down by nearly half.

Gas prices have surged past $4 a gallon since the war started, and just 28 percent of Americans approve of how Trump has handled Iran. The president’s own military chief doesn’t believe the war he keeps calling almost over is actually winnable the way it’s being fought.

TRUMP GETS HIS MOST WANTED BILL KILLED BY HIS OWN PARTY

Senate Republicans left Washington for recess in the predawn hours Saturday without passing Trump’s SAVE America Act, the strict proof-of-citizenship voting bill he’d spent weeks pressuring Majority Leader John Thune to force through.

Trump had even demanded senators nuke the filibuster to get it done. Instead, GOP Sens. Mike Lee, Ron Johnson, and Rick Scott called Trump directly after a tense standoff and talked him into a fallback: trying to tack pieces of the bill onto an Iran war funding package when Congress returns in September.

Lee, who led the holdout push, admitted “we are not in a position right now where we have the wherewithal to pass it,” and his lone objection wasn’t enough to stop the Senate from adjourning anyway. Trump had warned it would be “unfortunate” if Thune couldn’t deliver.

Thune did deliver plenty else overnight, confirming Blanche, passing a Russia sanctions package, and funding the government. But the one thing Trump wanted most is the one thing his own party couldn’t get him.

SENATE CONFIRMS TRUMP’S PERSONAL LAWYER AS ATTORNEY GENERAL

The Senate voted 50-49 early Saturday to confirm Todd Blanche, Trump’s former personal defense attorney, as the nation’s top law enforcement officer.

Sen. Bill Cassidy cast the deciding vote after Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski both voted no. Murkowski said she remained “keenly aware” that a nearly $2 billion “slush fund” for Trump allies was only shelved because the Senate still had leverage over Blanche’s confirmation vote.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Republicans “handed Trump an excuse on a silver platter to continue his pervasive, breathtaking corruption.” Under Blanche’s leadership, the department has already indicted former FBI Director James Comey twice, charged New York AG Letitia James, and gone after two sitting Democratic senators.

The man who once defended Trump in court now runs the agency that’s supposed to hold him accountable. That’s not an appointment. That’s an insurance policy.

COURT TELLS TRUMP THE WHITE HOUSE ISN’T HIS HOUSE

A federal appeals court ruled Friday that Trump has to stop building his $400 million White House ballroom because he never got Congress to approve it.

The D.C. Circuit panel sided 2-1 with historic preservationists, writing that “whether or not a massive ballroom should be constructed is for Congress to decide and is not a matter for Executive self-help.” Trump is already vowing to appeal to the Supreme Court, calling the ruling “unjust” and claiming it threatens national security.

Congress already turned down Trump’s $1 billion request for the project in May, and Democrats say $350 million was quietly redirected from a tax law to help pay for it anyway. The ruling upholds an earlier order barring aboveground construction, though underground work on bunkers can continue.

Trump has spent his second term acting like the White House is his personal property. A federal court just told him, in writing, that it isn’t.
