Good morning, this is Really American. It is Wednesday, August 19, 2026. Trump’s 35-year-old aide is forgetting to eat and sleep because of potential infatuation with the 80-year-old President.
This morning we have a letter that has the White House whispering, a president whose golden endorsement keeps turning to lead, a Senate hopeful who admitted on live TV that she has no idea what she’s talking about, and a tariff war that collapsed hours before it started. Natalie Harp’s devotion to Trump is now on paper, and people around him are unnerved. Three candidates he backed lost on Tuesday, two of them in his own home state. Lindsey Graham’s sister got booed in South Carolina. And Trump blinked on Canada overnight. Let’s get into it.
Here is something worth sitting with for a second. You are reading this newsletter right now. That means independent media is still alive. But the window is closing faster than most people realize. Newsrooms are being gutted. Local papers are disappearing. The outlets that are still standing are getting bought up by the same billionaires whose names appear in today’s stories. The journalism that holds power accountable does not pay for itself. It gets paid for by people who decide it matters. If that is you, if you believe the country needs reporting that does not answer to a billionaire, then Really American needs you to act on that belief today. Not next week. Today. NATALIE HARP’S LOVE-LETTER RATTLES TRUMP’S WHITE HOUSE
Natalie Harp, the 35-year-old aide who is almost never more than a few feet from Donald Trump, wrote him a letter in which she said she had been forgetting to eat and even forgetting to sleep.
The New York Times obtained the letter. In it, Harp apologized for being “an embarrassment walking the course in Scotland” and said she wanted “things to always be right between us.” She signed off, “With all my heart, Natalie.” The Times separately obtained video of Harp sprinting across a golf course to keep pace with Trump’s cart. This isn’t something you write a boss. This is what you write a lover.
This is not a fringe staffer. Harp stays up late drafting Truth Social posts, texts world leaders on Trump’s behalf, and carries a portable printer everywhere so she can hand him hard copies of news, which earned her the nickname “human printer.” Times reporter Maggie Haberman went further, calling Harp the president’s “human binkie.” Her colleagues are reportedly disturbed by how close she has gotten.
The person operating outside the normal chain of command, messaging heads of state in the president’s name, is a 35-year-old aide whose devotion is alarming the people who work next to her. That should worry everyone, no matter how you vote.
TRUMP’S ENDORSEMENTS COLLAPSE IN KEY PRIMARIES
Three candidates Donald Trump personally endorsed lost their primaries on Tuesday. Two of them lost in Florida, the president’s own home state.
In Florida’s 19th district, Trump backed Catalina Lauf, a twice-failed Illinois congressional candidate who recently moved to the district and could not name her county commissioner, her school board member, or even the mayor. She lost by about seven points. Trump-endorsed Rep. Cory Mills, who is under House Ethics investigation and was hit with a restraining order last year, lost his seat by more than 13 points. In Wyoming, Trump’s pick for governor, Megan Degenfelder, was down more than 17 points. This follows Mike Lindell’s blowout loss in Minnesota and two more Trump-backed House members losing weeks earlier, according to the Associated Press.
Trump’s response to going zero for three? “A lot of great WINS tonight!!!” he posted on Truth Social.
A Trump endorsement is supposed to be the most powerful force in Republican politics. Voters just spent Tuesday ignoring it three times in one night. The spell is breaking, and everyone can see it.
LINDSEY GRAHAM’S SISTER BOOED AT DEBATE
Darline Graham, running to permanently fill her late brother Lindsey’s Senate seat, got booed by her own hometown crowd Tuesday after admitting she is “not that informed on national security.”
At the debate in Newberry, co-moderator Greta Van Susteren asked Graham whether Taiwan and the South China Sea were national security concerns for the United States. Graham asked her to repeat the question, then said she was going to be honest and did not know much about the subject. The crowd booed. She pivoted to saying she supports the military. Then, in another moment, she claimed there are “50 million people in South Carolina.” The actual number is about 5.5 million, off by nearly a factor of ten, as The Daily Beast reported.
Graham was installed in the seat with Trump’s backing and now faces a runoff against Rep. Ralph Norman on August 25. Even Nikki Haley called her out, noting that national security knowledge is not something you inherit from a sibling.
This is who Trump wants voting on war and national security in the United States Senate. She is asking for the job and telling voters to their faces that she cannot do it.
TRUMP CAVES ON CANADA TARIFFS
Donald Trump paused his 50 percent tariffs on Canada just hours before they were set to take effect Wednesday morning.
In a late-night Truth Social post, Trump announced a three-day pause and claimed the two countries “have a DEAL,” though he offered no actual terms. He then dangled a revived Keystone XL Pipeline, declaring the project “may be awoken from the grave.” The tariffs would have hit roughly $20 billion in Canadian imports, everything from hockey sticks to building materials to liquor and clothing, according to NBC News. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said only that “substantial progress” had been made and that real work remained.
This is the entire tariff playbook in one night. Threaten, panic, retreat, then declare victory with no deal to show for it. The chaos is the strategy, and when the dust settles, the higher prices land on your grocery bill and not his.
THIS IS WHY INDEPENDENT MEDIA CANNOT AFFORD TO DIE
Independent journalism does not run on goodwill. It runs on people who decide it is worth paying for. Today you read about a 35-year-old aide whose devotion has Trump’s own staff rattled, a president whose endorsements keep losing, a Senate hopeful who admits she knows nothing about national security, and a tariff war that reversed itself overnight. Those stories exist because Really American exists. And Really American exists because readers like you fund it. If you have been getting this newsletter for free, it is time to put something in. ONE MORE THING: A REAL SHOT AT BEATING CANCER
Some good news to end on. Moderna and Merck announced Wednesday that their personalized mRNA cancer vaccine, intismeran autogene, cleared a Phase 3 trial in melanoma patients, the first mRNA cancer treatment ever to do it. According to The Washington Post, the vaccine is custom-built from each patient’s own tumor and, paired with the immunotherapy Keytruda, sharply cut the risk of the cancer coming back. It could become the first mRNA cancer treatment the FDA ever approves, with versions already being tested against lung, kidney, and bladder cancer. The kicker: this is the same mRNA technology that produced the covid vaccines, the one the Trump administration keeps attacking with unfounded claims. Science just kept working anyway.
We’ll see you soon.

Difficult to read how this Harp woman is groveling to such a low life as trump. She is clearly unwell, in need of psychiatric treatment and after reading how she readily got into a car trunk so she could be with him I would suggest psychiatric hospitalization for her. Darlene Graham is both honest and unfit for any political office.
She most definitely needs a mental status exam. She doesn't sound very bright
